Dr. Debabrata Kanungo, former Additional Director General, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India and former Chairman of Scientific Panel on Residues of Pesticides, is the Chairman of theScientific Panel on Food Additives and Member of Scientific Committee, under Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). He is having 36 years of work experience in regulatory toxicology dealing with human health risk assessment at National and International level. Former Member Expert (Medical Toxicology) \ with Central Insecticides Board& Registration Committee, Govt. of India. A Doctor of Medicine( MD) in Pharmacology and Toxicology. Trained in Advance Toxicology from RIVM, The Netherlands. Trained in Japan in health hazards due to modernization of Agriculture. Main architect of "Guidance document on Toxicology for registration of Pesticides in India"(Kanungo Committee Report) harmonised with OECD in India. Associated with WHO Core Assessment Group as an Expert for more than last three decades in preparation of EHC and CICARD on pesticides and Chemicals.

A WHO expert member with WHO/FAO JMPR since 2006 .Also an expert member for WHO/FAO JECFA(Veterinary Drugs). Leader of Indian Government Delegation for a number of CCPR Meetings. Member and Chairman of a number of Past and Present Technical/Advisory Committees of National and International importance. Recipient of Prof. B. N. Ghosh Oration award by Indian Pharmacological Society. Recipient of FICCI Award, 2019 for highest contribution in academia in chemical and petrochemical sector. Widely travelled throughout the Globe in his professional capacity. He has been an invited speaker to several meetings/conferences/workshops related to toxicology and chemical risk assessment both at National and International Level.
